This fly a great fly created by a great tyer (Mike Mercer). If fishing seems a little slow during the "dog days" this summer give this fly a try. It works great as a dropper below a hopper or fat albert.
Ice Dub Z-Wing Caddis - Trout Fly
Hook: TMC 2487 #14-18
Thread: Black 6/0 Uni
Bead: Copper Tungsten Bead
Rib: Chartreuse Wire (Small)
Shellback: Turkey Tail Feather
Body: Caddis Green Ice Dub
Wing Buds: Cream Antron Yarn
Thorax: Black Peacock Ice Dub

Step 1: Tie in chartreuse wire. |

Step 2: Tie in turkey tail. |
 |
Step 3: Dub body. |
 |
Step 4: Pull turkey feather forward and tie off. |
 |
Step 5: Clip turkey and rib body. |
 |
Step 6: Tie in antron on one side of fly. This is a view from the top of the fly. |

Step 7: Fold antron to opposite side of body and tie off. |
 |
Step 8: Dub thorax. |
 |
Step 9: Clip zelon. |

Finished fly. |
I think olive is my best color for this fly but it works in tan as well. A chartreuse version could be effective too but I haven't tried one. This is an easy tie and when the fish are on caddis it almost should be illegal.
